About Stephen

Stephen began his musical career performing in piano bars on the East Coast. He moved to Los Angeles to accept a writer/reporter position with Star Magazine. In 2000, sticking to a timetable he had set himself, he left to pursue a full-time career as a composer, writer, and producer.

As a composer he's written jingles and scored a number of films, including Brian To's Award-winning Audit and the comedy spoof, The Helix...Loaded, starring Vanilla Ice. His music can also be heard in the films Mini's First Time, starring Alec Baldwin and Nikki Reed; and  Slingshot, starring David Arquette and Balthazar Getty, as well as, the MTV series, Next.

For television, Stephen wrote the theme and underscores for Discovery Channel's Emmy Award-winning The Christopher Lowell Show, and served as the show's head writer and comedy segment producer. He also wrote the music for the one-hour special, Cruisin' With Christopher, for the Travel Channel.

In 2003, Stephen wrote, scored and co-produced the documentary Translating Wonder for Public Television Japan. The film, which was directed and edited by Mirai Konishi, celebrates the life of American environmentalist Rachel Carson through the personal journey of Japanese writer and translator, Keiko Kamito. Stephen later released the original soundtack album.*

Stephen and Mirai first met and worked together in 1999, when Mirai was searching for a composer to score  his USC  thesis film, Blind.  The two also collaborated on the short film, Close To You: Look who's stalking, which Mirai wrote, edited, and directed, and Stephen scored and produced. The film screened in the Tokyo International Film Festival and Dances with Films Festival in Los Angeles.

In 2006, Stephen and Mirai teamed up again to work on their fourth project together, Yoga for Happiness, a three DVD set of yoga instruction created and demonstrated by Los Angeles based yoga instructor, Susan Nichols. Music from the three-hour DVD series was later released  in Japan as an original music soundtack album by Leafage (a division or Pony Canyon).*

Collaborating with director Brian To, Stephen composed the music for a series of Public Service Announcements for the L.A. Metro Task Force on Human Trafficking. He also scored and co-produced Brian To's inspirational documentary short, Try, Try, Again. Additionally, Stephen has scored and contributed to a number of other short films  include  Dig, The Relationship Theorem, Simon, American Sinner, Needle Hands, Voodoo Love, Lucifer Loves Roast Beef, and the out of this world sci-fi comedy spoof, Abduct Me!

Stephen holds a BA in Music from Temple University. He has studied composition and theory with Julliard's David Sokoloff, Emmy-winning composer Billy Goldenberg, and attended UCLA's Film Scoring Program. He's also been a visiting artist at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

For the web, he wrote the original music for maniaTV's Comedy on Demand series  National Lampoon Lemmings (which later landed on late night cable TV), as well as, the theme for Babelgum.com's Mass Debaters comedy shorts. Stephen also wrote the music for Bobbi Jo Lathan's CD, Stories From A Part-Time American* and served as the orchestrator for Pat Boone's seasonal CD, California Christmas Card.

Fishnet
Most recently, Stephen scored the Award-winning mad-capped comedy feature, Fishnet, written and directed by Brian Pelletier. The film stars Rebekah Kochan  and Jillian Easton as two LA burlesque dancers who accidentally get involved in a mob hit and hit the road - turning a small Texas town upside down with the mob in tow.  As the clothes come off... the bullets fly! Stephen also produced and released  the soundtrack.*
